keeping up with safety regulations
A robotics operations company needed more aggressive and customized safety solutions for their expanding operations. The company installed a machine guard system for automated machinery to protect workers and ensure safety compliance. The company was able to have a customized safety solution with the highest level of protection while maintaining their quality production standards.
finding the right solution for custom applications
Before the new system, the machine operators were protected by a standard light curtain configuration. However, as additional robotic cells were installed and methods of production and efficiency were envisioned, it became apparent that they needed to increase the quantity and adaptability of their automated machine safety devices.
Safety engineers performed extensive fact-finding interviews and walked throughout the entire large facility to help determine the most effective way to maintain a high level of production while keeping workers' safety a top priority. The company also needed a durable, long-lasting machine guarding solution that would hold up in the harsh industrial environment.
The project called for a standard machine guarding product that utilizes a 5'0" high panel that begins one foot above the floor. A sliding tunnel door that has no overhead tracks to allow tall objects to pass through the opening unobstructed was equipped with the interlock. The interlock was wired to one of the robots which shuts down the automated equipment when the door is opened. The end result of the installation has resulted in an effective blend of light curtain technology and the machine guards that provide a high level of protection and quality production and meet OSHA rigorous safety standards.
Stock panels are available in standard heights of 5'-3 1/4" and 8'-5 1/4" with options of alternate woven and welded mesh options, expanded metal, sheet metal, or clear polycarbonate. Custom configurations are also available to ensure that the guarding system meets your and OSHA's safety standards. Hinged, double hinged, sliding, and vertical rise doors are available and a variety of safety interlocks with mounting plates.
